Enhancing Nature-Based Solutions: Efficient Removal of Hydroxytyrosol in Olive Mill Wastewater Treatment for Value Creation

This study aimed to investigate the potential use of microalgae Chlorella sorokiniana and Scenedesmus quadricauda for bioremediation olive mill wastewater (OMW), which is a major environmental issue waste product oil production. The investigated effects different dilutions (10% 50%) OMW on growth their ability remove phenolic component hydroxytyrosol (OH-Tyr) enhance antioxidant properties. results indicated that, although was not enhanced, both strains were able OH-Tyr from OMW, with showing higher removal efficiency than quadricauda. Moreover, activity microalgal extracts increased after 96 h exposure OMW. These findings suggest that microalgae-based treatment could be promising approach this production value-added products. Overall, provide sustainable solution management while generating economic benefits producers.
